FRIENDS OF ART IN THE SCHOOLS
Friends is a collaborative group of educators,
historians, conservators, parents, artists and community
members whose mission is the discovery, cataloging and
preservation of artwork in Portland Public
Schools. The group evolved through the efforts of Ginny Allen, a local art
historian specializing in Oregon artists (She and Jody Klevit
co-wrote
Oregon Painters: The First Hundred Years,
1859–1959) and Pam Brown, former
director of facilities and asset management at
PPS. Kirsten Leonard serves as
committee chair of Friends and Nina Olsson advises the
group on issues of conservation.
The Friends
of Art in the Schools believes that art is fundamental to
providing and meeting the District’s educational goals,
supplements classroom curriculum, enhances the educational
environment of our schools and enriches our communities.
The Portland Public School District supports
the Friends’ effort to ensure the discovery,
preservation, conservation and maintenance of art works owned
by the school district.
We welcome your support; if you have photos or
recollections or other information to share regarding
works in Portland Public Schools collection
please contact us.
